bwdarchitects was founded as Butz•Wilbern Ltd in 1989 and leverages 30+ years of providing effective, efficient, and exceptional designs services to individuals, corporations, and developer clients. Our experience in design, construction, and project management provides our clients the professional qualifications of a larger firm integrated with the personal service and responsiveness of a small firm.

Based just outside of Washington, DC, bwdarchitects has built a reputation of bringing skill, innovation and insight into every project. Sam earned his Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1980. He brings a balanced mix of expertise, practicality, and solid honesty that clients value.

Jack Wilbern

Jack is a 1982 graduate of the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, has been a Registered Architect for 30+ years, is licensed in multiple states, and is NCARB Certified.

James Dankovich

James Dankovich

James is a 2006 graduate from New York State University at Buffalo and earned his Masters of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2009.  He is licensed in 4 states and is NCARB Certified.

Collaboration is at the center of bwdarchitects’ process—from initial project visioning with the Owner and their staff to establish project needs, to transitioning the project with our professional team and consultants to maintain a construction document timeline that coordinates with other project criteria, and through completion of the project with the construction team, we value efficiency and communication with everyone involved.
